Renfrew’s long wait to meet the Big Man in Red will pay off this weekend.
Town programs specialist Janyne Fraser says the community’s Santa Claus parade is coming together perfectly, with a long line of floats ready to travel the downtown core on Saturday.
The procession will get underway at St. Joseph’s High School, passing through downtown Renfrew along Raglan St. South before breaking off at the intersection with Munroe Avenue. Santa will then head to the Renfrew Legion, which has set up a space for photo opportunities with the community.
Fraser says beggars can’t be choosers when it comes to the conditions the parade will run under, but this week’s snow should add to the giving spirit of the event while volunteers collect donations for the Renfrew and District Food Bank along the route.
While the forecast looks like it will hold up, we had to ask Fraser about what would happen in the unlikely chance the weather turns extreme over the weekend.
Float watchers in need of some warming up can drop by a stationary float set up along Railway Avenue by Renfrew County Voices, who will be providing treats, hot chocolate, and the chance for kids to send their letters off to Santa starting at 4:30 p.m.
