The Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment has charged a driver with several offences following a traffic stop on November 29. At approximately 9:30 a.m., an OPP officer on patrol in the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. During the stop, the officer discovered that the driver was prohibited from driving, leading to their arrest.
The driver, a 62-year-old from Pikwakanagan, was charged with multiple offences, including:
- Operating a motor vehicle while prohibited
- Possession of a Schedule 1 substance
- Resisting a peace officer
In addition to these charges, they were also cited for multiple highway traffic violations. The vehicle was towed and impounded for 45 days.
The driver was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on January 15, 2025.
The OPP reminds drivers to follow all traffic laws and drive safely.
