It won’t happen all at once, but there is an official vision in place for the Eastern end of Renfrew.
Renfrew Town Council were led through the findings of the Renfrew East Secondary Plan on Tuesday night, a project that Director of Development Eric Withers explains would split a large section of mostly vacant, uniformly zoned space to better suit future needs for growth in the area.
Most of the land, which extends along the corner of O’Brien and Gillan Roads towards Highway 17, is made up of mostly vacant farm fields, forested areas, drainage features, and some limited residential development.
The revised plan for the east end would rezone the land into a mixture of residential, commercial, industrial, and greenspace lands in what Withers describes as a well-situated part of town, with services like water and wastewater, stormwater management and infrastructure either planned or available for extension.
The drawings for the project also include extensions of Froats Street and Barnet Boulevard, as well as the new exit for Whitton Road currently in-development as part of the upcoming Highway 417 expansion.
It’s a major reimagining for a large section of town that Withers stresses will take a lot of patience and time to complete.
Council accepted the findings at their Tuesday night meeting, and are expected to return to them for official approval later this month.
