Renfrew Collegiate Institute has given an established history project a new life ahead of commemorating Remembrance Day.
History Teacher Adam Noack says the many hours of research into the stories of former RCI students lost during World Wars I and II by his past classes has been turned into fully developed multi-media projects, complete with voiceovers from this year’s drama and computer science students.
Some seventy-plus individuals who attended RCI died while serving in the World Wars, and Noack points out that, at some point following WWII, someone representing RCI or the school board completely scrubbed mention of the alumni and their involvement from within the school’s hallways.
Preserving the history of the fallen has allowed Noack the opportunity to hear their stories from the perspective of people across the globe.
The digital project might end up being paired with a more physical tribute in the years to come.
The entire database can be found on the RCI website, and many of the profiles have also been posted to Facebook so people can share them with friends and family.
