It’s been in the works since May 2024, but was only finalized with an announcement last Thursday (October 24th): Arnprior will be hosting Team Latvia from December 13th-23rd, as it prepares for the IIHF Junior Hockey Championships in Ottawa.
Arnprior Recreation Director Graeme Ivory gives us the back-story:
Ivory says the secret was kept under wraps.
When scheduling complications arose at the Neelin Street Arena in Carleton Place, the pot got sweeter.
Kazakhstan versus Germany is December 19th; Latvia hosts Switzerland December 23rd at the NSC.
The Recreation Director says hotel and motel accommodations may be sparse in Town over Team Latvia’s 10-day stay.
Ivory says the crunch for volunteer opportunities is particular on day-of.
Graeme says well-known McNab-Braeside neighbour Andy Kalnins has already offered the use of his English-Latvian dictionary.
Everything you need to know about the event, you’ll find it at arnprior.ca/WJC
Ticket availability by the time you hear this may be a thing of the past- especially for the December 23rd game between Latvia and Switzerland. As of Friday, they were already half-way to a sellout.
All seats are general admission, $33.21.
