October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and Renfrew’s junior hockey teams are partnering with the Renfrew Victoria Hospital Foundation (RVH) to mark the important initiative at their games this weekend.
Fans are invited to turn the rink pink at Saturday’s Junior A Wolves game and Sunday’s Junior B Timberwolves games.
There will be special pink t-shirts on sale, a jersey auction, as well as a special way to mark the occasion, courtesy of the RVH Foundation, which will provide pink tribute cards, on which fans can honour loved ones who have been impacted by breast cancer.
Patti Dillabough, executive director of the Renfrew Victoria Hospital Foundation, tells us what to expect.
Kristina Lafrance, marketing director with Renfrew Wolves hockey, says events like this weekend’s and making a difference in the community are what the Wolves are all about.
The players are not only on the ice providing entertainment, said Lafrance, they stand with fans and care about them and also have mothers, sisters, aunts and friends who could be affected by breast cancer.
If you can’t participate and donate this weekend, are there other ways to boost the cause? Share the posts on social media, get a conversation going, says Lafrance.
Funds raised this weekend support the RVH mammography unit, which includes a new Tomosynthesis mammogram machine, which was purchased through the second RVH Catch the Ace.
Both Dillabough and Lafrance are pleased to be partnering for this weekend’s events, something they hope will become an annual initiative.
Renfrew’ Junior A Wolves take on the Cornwall Colts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and the Junior B Timberwolves face off against the Ottawa Junior Canadiens at 7 p.m. Sunday.
