Town staff in Renfrew are about to make certain ice times at the myFM Centre more affordable.
Director of Community & Recreation Services Kelly Latendresse says they are adding a weekday rate that will provide users with deep discounts for ice times between 7:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., a feature that other municipalities have done successfully.
Town staff will turn their “adult” ice times into two categories: “prime” time slots that can be rented out for $225 per hour plus tax and “non-prime” weekday slots that can be rented for $157.50 plus tax.
Latendresse points out that the 30% discount is far deeper than for ice times in neighbouring municipalities, who offer more non-prime hours overall at a discount closer to 18%.
It’s not the only major change to hourly rates at the arena, with Latendresse noting that the town is also adding a rate for using rink during the warmer months of the year.
Reeve Peter Emon says many users of the arena have been asking for these changes since they last changed the rental fees.
Council will need to hold a public meeting later this month before approving the new rates.
