General Manager Jerrett Defazio says he is overall pleased with his Renfrew Wolves team after splitting their weekend series with Brockville, taking 3 of a possible 4 points available in what he called a pair of physical battles.
The Wolves started the weekend off on a winning note as the two sides met at the Brockville Memorial Centre on Friday. The Wolves showed their mettle, overcoming a slew of penalties in the second period and relying on a late flurry of goals from Joshua Penney, Angelo Protopapas, and Edward Souliere to win 3-1. The victory was Renfrew’s first of the season and also Head Coach Jason Gould’s first official CCHL victory.
Action would then move the myFM Centre on Saturday as the Wolves celebrated their home opener with a back-and-forth contest played out in front of over 500 fans. Renfrew grit was once again tested, with the Wolves needing tallies from Souliere and Dylan Paron to keep pace with Brockville before Tal Stevenson gave the home side its first lead of the game early in the third period.
Unfortunately, despite a heroic effort from goaltender Nick Kurtiak that saw him defuse a number of highly dangerous Brockville attempts, Renfrew would not be able to hold on. Brockville would force overtime before pulling away to win 4-3 in overtime.
The Wolves will have a chance to catch their breath before heading to the Robert Hartley Sports Complex on Friday, September 27th, for a game against the Hawkesbury Hawks. Catch the action live on 96.1 myFM that evening, starting with the pre-game show just before 7:30 p.m.
