The first mention of the controversy regarding the sale of 20 acres of Galilee Centre Lands adjacent to the Gillies Grove Nature Preserve came to Arnprior Council last evening (September 9th), in the form of Mayor Lisa McGee’s activity report.
The Mayor is referring to the Save the Grove Again Public Information Session held Saturday afternoon at Emmanuel Anglican Church.
McGee then sought to apprise herself of the developer’s perspective.
Friday the Mayor had endeavoured to quell what she may have perceived as premature alarmism with a news release that argued, “there are currently no planning applications submitted regarding the development of the Galilee Centre lands. This means that at this time there is no way to make comments on a specific application. At this time, the purchase and sale of these lands is a civil matter between the two parties.”
While these issues remain to be seen, a matter earlier debated in Arnprior in May of 2023 is back on the table at the Upper Tier.
That’s County Councillor Dan Lynch.
Depending on the format of development chosen by Cavanagh Communities, the struggle to Save the Grove Again may well also be contested at County Headquarters on International Drive.
