If your garage is full of things like unused paint or pool chemicals, be sure to get in touch with the Renfrew Landfill.
The Bruce Street landfill’s Household Hazardous Waste Depot will close for the season on Saturday, August 31st, and will not reopen until next spring.
Residents of Renfrew, Arnprior, McNab-Braeside, Horton, Admaston/Bromley, Addington Highlands, and Greater Madawaska have just a few days left to get rid of items like dead batteries, paint and stains, light bulbs, and more. can get rid of hazardous materials for free from 8:00 to 4:00 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, as well as 8:00 to 7:00 on Thursday.
Items that the Hazardous Waste Depot will be taking this week include:
- Paints: All Types of Paint, Stains, Varnish, Spray Paint, etc.
- Solvents: turpentine, disinfectants, household cleaners, bleach, oven and drain cleaners, furniture strippers, ammonia, etc.
- Herbicides, pesticides and insecticides, weed killers, etc.
- Pool cleaners
- Propane Tanks
- Batteries: Small Standard, Button, Small Tool, Car and Boat Batteries.
- Automotive Fluids: Used Oil, Brake Fluid, Gasoline, Anti-Freeze, etc.
- Oil filters
- Oil containers (empty or containing oil)
- Light Bulbs and Tubes (all types except PCB ballasts)
- Fire Extinguishers
- Aerosols
- Non-refillable pressurized containers: acetylene, refrigerant, propane, helium, and CO2 cylinders.
- Pharmaceuticals/Medication (no needles)
- Mercury bulb thermostats and switches
