A bird's eye view of the new ice pad.
Renfrew and area residents won’t have to look far to chill out as the summer rolls on.
Free public skating is back on at the myFM Centre, and the town’s Programs Specialist Janyne Fraser tells us they have plenty of chances for you to dust off your skates this August.
This month’s free skating sessions are for everyone, but seniors and tots will get some exclusive time slots for a more casual skating experience starting in September.
Town staff spent late July developing their main rink’s ice pad, slowly freezing dozens of thin layers of ice to build a strong, sturdy surface that will stand up to the stress of a full fall and winter of minor hockey and rentals.
Fraser says the public are already making good use of the main rink, and more opportunities are on the way thanks to the recently build second rink.
Skates are mandatory for all ice times, and helmets will be required for most users. Public ice times can be found throughout the season on the Town of Renfrew’s website.
