There will be no more return trips to Ma-te-Way Park for this year’s Canada Day celebrations in Renfrew.
Program Specialist Janyne Fraser says community input helped to reshape their plans for July 1st this year, doing away with a format that required locals and visitors to come and go throughout the day.
Instead, a full day of free Canada Day festivities will kick off with opening ceremonies with the Bonnechere Algonquin First Nation that afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
You can also enjoy historical displays from the NHA/NHL Birthplace and McDougal Mill Museums, fun and games, plenty of music from local talent, free barbeque while supplies last, a beer tent, and, of course, the traditional fireworks display.
Fraser says that might not be all they’re working on for the event, either.
Despite using the Visitor Information Centre as their fireworks display venue during the pandemic, Fraser says that the show will be staying in Ma-te-Way Park after positive feedback from their return to the site last year.
Fraser is also looking for volunteers to help put on the free event, which you can learn more about on their events page on Facebook.
