Mark MacKenzie returned to the Mayor’s Chair at the McNab-Braeside Municipal meeting June 4th, which he attended in person.
There was no public explanation for his reversal of an April 1st decision to stand aside from Executive duties.
When queried by email on the matter by Oldies 107.7, the McNab-Braeside Chief Executive replied:
“Regardless, there are too many complicating factors to give you any definitive answers as to what will happen in the near future with any governance changes. For now, I am not speaking for the Township as a whole still but may speak for myself from time to time.
I intend to chair the next meeting on the 18th.”
MacKenzie had earlier linked his participation as Executive to a demand that he be able to vet Council Agendas in advance, in the interest of transparency and efficiency.
As to the role as official Township spokesperson, amendments to the McNab-Braeside Procedural Bylaw effected May 21st, did restrict MacKenzie’s committee participation, but left this responsibility intact within the duties of the Mayor’s Office.
