Minor hockey across the Ottawa Valley will have a new option for older players.
The Renfrew Minor Hockey Association says an under-21 division for the first time ever next season across all of Hockey Eastern Ontario’s District 5, including the RMHA and the other minor hockey associations across the Upper Ottawa Valley.
It will be a non-contact house league for players from the 2004, 2005 and 2006 birth years looking to continue under the Hockey Canada structure this season ahead of moving on to play in the adult recreational leagues.
Outside of no body checking, other details that have been revealed include that the majority of the season being games with limited practices and that games will potentially be three 15 minute periods running with a two official system like adult recreational leagues.
Games will also likely use later ice times to reduce the impact on work commitments. Costs have yet to be determined, and the RMHA says the number of teams will be determined by the number of registrations.
Plans for the new divisions are still under development, but the RMHA says they are excited to see their players wear the Wolves logo for three more years.
