
This past weekend, it was confirmed that there is a dangerous trend of speed on the highway between Renfrew and Arnprior.
Renfrew OPP, the Highway Safety Division, and the Ministry of Transportation were working together to curb dangerous driving behaviour along Highway 17, laying 53 charges and 10 warnings over the three days.
The vast majority of those charges were for speeding, including three stunt driving charges where speeds were clocked between 152 and 171 kilometres per hour.
The OPP notes that the alarming speeds they witnessed this weekend have been seen by them and the community at other times as well.
A full list of the charges laid between March 8th and the 10th includes:
- Speeding: 39
- Stunt Driving: 3 (speeds of 152 km/h, 168 km/h, and 171 km/h)
- No Insurance: 2
- Suspend Drive: 2
- Breach of POA Probation: 1
- Driving with No Licence: 1
- Class G1 Licence Holder Unaccompanied: 1
- No Muffler: 1
- Documents / Permit: 2
Other notable stats from the weekend include a total of three cars impounded and a pair of Level 2 CVSA inspections completed. They also stopped a suspected stolen vehicle with the use of a rolling block and seized 750 contraband cigarettes.
