Here is a quick snapshot of what’s happening around town in the next 48 hours.
The deadline to sign-up for the Renfrew and Area Connection Centre Spring Showdown hockey tournament is March 1st. Player in the Under 9, Under 11, Under 13, and Under 15 ages groups are invited to create teams of ten skaters and a goalie for games happening at the myFM Centre in April and May.
Open Mic at the Renfrew Legion is this Friday starting at 7:00 p.m. Your host for the evening is Joel McCrea. Free entry and all skill levels welcome. Open to the public.
Horton Township wraps up the Ottawa Valley’s Winter Carnival season with their own offering at the Horton Community Centre this Saturday, starting with the signature shanty breakfast at 8:00 a.m. Also featuring sleigh rides, public skating, games for the kids, and plenty more.
The much anticipated Merv’s Spring Fling at the Wing is this Saturday 7:30 p.m. to midnight at the Renfrew Wing on Argyle Street. Enjoy a night of live music, snacks, and plenty of mingling in exchange for a donation to the Renfrew and Area Food Bank.

In Minor Hockey: Under 15 House League Team 2 -Shane Croskery Photography host the Pembroke Kings at the myFM Centre’s Pad #2 at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Also on Pad #2 this Friday, the Under 18 Rep League Team 1 -Personalize It welcome the Muskrat Voyageurs at 8:00 p.m.
Two games to play on Saturday: Under 9 Tier 4 Team 2 -Rink Rats host Petawawa Tier 4 – 3 on myFM Centre Pad #2 at 10:00 a.m., while Under 9 Tier 3 Team 1 -Renfrew Pizzeria play Petawawa Tier 3 – 1 on Pad #1 at 10:30 a.m.
At the Jr. B level: The Renfrew Timberwolves are on the road for Game 5 of their first round playoff series against the Richmond Royals on Friday night, with the puck dropping at 8:00 p.m. The best of five series is tied at 2-2.
And in Jr. A: The Renfrew Wolves host the Cornwall Colts at the myFM Centre on Saturday, March 2nd. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
