Pretty soon, it will be the first thing you see when walking into Renfrew’s Visitor Information Centre.
The town has unveiled the draft version of a mural highlighting Renfrew’s history and its commitment to being an inclusive community, set to be painted across the entire back wall of the facility.
The presentation, which happened during their Tuesday night council meeting, drew glowing remarks from Councilor Andrew Dick, among others.
The councilor would add his enthusiasm for the inspirations chosen for the project, which were crowdsourced by a group of residents and artist Jimmy Baptiste last month.
Kelly Thompson, Director of Library and Community Services, says the public should stay tuned for more information on how they will also get the chance to help Jimmy with the finished product.
The mural depicts a number of historical touchstones that make up Renfrew’s heritage, including the clock tower downtown, references to the rail, hockey, and lumber industries, and the O’Brien Theatre, as well as important cultural aspects like Indigenous characters, a female hockey player, Ontario Trillium flowers, and flowers in LGBTQ+ colours.
