A pair of local hockey coaches are looking to bring an elite mindset to an often overlooked position.
Lorenzo Comparelli brings 30 years of coaching experience, including with the Renfrew Timberwolves, to the D-Stride Hockey School’s March Break program, catering to improving the skills of young players on defence.
Comparelli and Upper Ottawa Valley Aces coach Connor Fulton say the four-day program will focus on the complete game for defensemen, building skating, positioning, and puck handling in defensive, neutral, and offence zone scenarios.
Space is still available for what will be a smaller group of kids between the Under-10 and Under-18 levels attending, which Fulton says will let them do more work one-on-one with each player.
Comperelli tells myFM that he has had the idea since moving to the area from the Greater Toronto Area in the early 2010’s, and he’s excited to put the plan into action with Fulton’s help.
For Fulton, it’s an opportunity he would have relished during his time in the local minor hockey system.
The D-Stride Hockey School’s March Break program runs inside the myFM Centre during the mornings of March 11th to March 14th, with some spots still available at $200 per player.
