The Renfrew Wolves schedule is in their favour as they jockey for playoff position while the CCHL’s regular season draws to a close.
The local Junior A team helped their case over the weekend, picking up a pair of wins against other playoff hopefuls, starting with a 5-2 win against the Kemptville 73’s on Friday.
Andrew Morton opened the scoring minutes into the second period, and Jace Letourneau would provide two goals to cement a 4-game-to-1 series win over Kepmtville this season. Noah Vom Scheidt and Emmett Robillard would also add to the scoresheet, as goaltender Nolan Lane turned away 32 of 34 shots for his ninth win of the year.
The Wolves would then head back to the myFM Centre to begin a five-game home stretch on Saturday against a familiar face and his new team.
Renfrew would get to former starting goaltender Sebastian Resar early, with Jack Dolan and Ethan Smith scoring two quick goals minutes into their contest with the Rockland Nationals. A pair of tallies from Henry Wilson would make the difference, as the Wolves would weather a late comeback attempt, holding on for a 5-4 victory. Noah Vom Scheidt would make an impact in his second straight game, scoring his 18th goal of the season.
Lane would be made to work for his 10th win of the season, stopping 36 of 40 shots.
The Wolves now sit on 59 points, good for the 5th seed heading into the CCHL Playoffs with five more games still to play. They’ll be cheering on their Junior B Timberwolves counterparts in playoff action this week ahead of returning to the myFM Centre to play the Cornwall Colts on Saturday, March 2nd, at 7:30 p.m.
