On Saturday, Arnprior Mayor Lisa McGee was the one to announce the passing of a true Arnprior yeoman hero, former Recreation Director Glenn Arthur.
In a post to the Town website and Arnprior Life Facebook page the Mayor advises: …Flags will be lowered to half-mast at Town Facilities Tuesday morning to honour the life of Glenn.”
On December 1st of 2017, the day of Arthur’s retirement (after 35 years with the Town) was proclaimed “Glenn Arthur Day” in the Town of Arnprior and today the former Arena B bears his name.
But in retirement Glenn was no shrinking violet, and the myFM Archives has him championing the major causes and events in Arnprior in the interim from 2017 to now:
In fact, just ten days after his retirement, Glenn was back before the Council of the day, making a pitch for the 150th Anniversary Bonspiel in the community
Glenn Arthur became integral to the Seniors’ Active Living Centre, and subsequently- he leaves a vacancy on the fundraising committee for the Arnprior McNab-Braeside Men’s Shed site redevelopment.
Glenn, and former Arnprior Packer teammate Ed Reid combined talents for the Grove Nursing Home Campaign, and Ed’s Valley Has Heart Golf initiative was part of it.
In November of 2022, Glenn filled big shoes by taking over the late Theresa Carron’s patented Santa Claus Parade
Today, it is Glenn Arthur we remember. Glenn passed away Friday, February 16th.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 24th 2024 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Pilon Family Funeral Home and Chapel , 50 John St N, Arnprior.
.
In Glenn’s memory, please consider making a donation to KidSport Renfrew County, a charity Glenn founded and believed in so dearly.
