A fantastic stretch of winning hockey came to an end over the weekend, as the Renfrew Wolves split their weekend road series.
The weekend started with a win on Friday, as the Wolves rumbled back from an early two-goal deficit to beat the Canadians in Carleton Place in overtime, 3-2. Noah Vom Scheidt, Kai Billey, and Mathieu Paquin all scored as Renfrew picked up their 12th straight win dating back to mid-December.
Then, on Sunday, Renfrew would see that streak snapped by the Lumber Kings, who beat them 5-2 in Pembroke. Renfrew were unable to capitalize on a number of opportunities, despite goals from Dane Carter and Mathieu Paquin. Renfrew still leads the Battle of the Valley series by 2 games to 1, but the win has given Pembroke another chance at life in the friendly wager between councilors in both communities.
The Wolves will not have much time to think about the loss as they head into Ottawa for a rare Wednesday game against the Jr. Senators at the Jim Durrell Sports Complex. 96.1 myFM will have the live broadcast for you, following Radio Bingo.
