Whitewater Region was the first municipality in Renfrew County to complete their budget for 2024.
We had a chance to speak with Mayor Neil Nicholson, who offered more insight on the budget.
Nicholson says the new budget will bring an increase of around 17 dollars per $100-thousand of property assessments.
Nicholson added that water and wastewater services will also see an increase.
Continuing, Nicholson says those increases will be put on utility users.
Because there aren’t that many users, it means higher costs for each one.
Nicholson says it’s not fair.
So, he says, they’re working with other municipalities in Renfrew County and Ontario, to bring the issue to the Province.
Elsewhere in the budget Nicholson says roads are an important focus this year.
Nicholson continues, going over some of their longer-term goals.
Recreation will also see some changes.
Nicholson says the township will only be operating one ice surface this year.
The draft budget presented to Whitewater Region council can be found here.
