Anglers looking to cast their line this winter are being directed to Whitewater Region.
Specifically, Muskrat Lake, which has been named one of the nine best ice-fishing destinations in Canada by FishingBooker, an online marketplace specializing in chartered fishing trips.
FishingBooker notes that “it’s hard not to be tempted by the lake’s iconic ice fishing shacks as you’re driving down Highway 17,” adding that it’s the home of some uncommon fish, like lake sturgeon and longnose gar.
Muskrat Lake is also a favourite stop for competitive anglers thanks to the Cobden Ice Fishing Derby, which hosts teams and families vying for over twenty thousand dollars in prizes every February.
