A new children’s book that you can pick up right now has deep connections to our local public high school.
“My Invisible Locket,” a story about the importance of not bottling up feelings of loss and grief, is the first book from retired Renfrew Collegiate Institute staff member Terry Edwards, illustrated by current Grade 11 student Madyson O’Grady.
Edwards says that “children are naturally inquisitive, but that doesn’t mean that they’re always willing to talk, especially when the subject matter is difficult or potentially painful.”
The book sends the message that the feeling is natural and is meant to help start the conversation and keep it going.
His hope is that My Invisible Locket “will help parents, grandparents, teachers, and other caring adults support our kids as they navigate the challenging and confusing worlds of grief and loss.”
You can grab a paperback copy at both A Sense of County and In a Bind in downtown Renfrew, as well as online through Amazon. An eBook version of the story is also in the works.
