Families, classrooms, and workplaces are being challenged to band together in the spirit of giving.
The Renfrew and District Food Bank’s Advent Calendar food drive gets underway Sunday, November 12th, with the goal of filling 400 boxes with items to make the holidays a little more cheerful for families in need.
President Mike Wright says it’s a fun way to engage the community and keep the food bank stocked this winter.
Food insecurity is on the rise in the area, and Wright says he’s recently met with a few families who have never needed to use their services before.
In fact, the number of monthly visits to the Food Bank this year is up an average of 31% compared to 2022.
The Food Bank has a list of 24 desired items that will give their clients more than just the basics this holiday season.
Collect one item a day or grab them all at once and box them up ahead of dropping them off at their Argyle Street location from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 6th, or 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 9th.
Wright is hoping the community can spread the word on social media and even start some friendly competition with friends and family to help the cause.
If you’re unable to drop off your completed Advent Calendar boxes at the Food Bank, Wright says the Renfrew Fire Department is helping them out by accepting donations at any time.
