Renfrew County’s Warden has gone to Parliament Hill to make his case for a new regional housing plan.
Eastern Ontario Warden’s Caucus Chair Peter Emon joined other EOWC members to meet the Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Regional Members of Parliament, Parliamentary Secretariats, Senators, and staff to push their 7-in-7+ plan.
The plan proposes to build at least 28,000 homes over seven years, including 7,000 affordable units to address current housing wait lists.
The EOWC is calling the meeting a “positive step forward to present information, build relationships, and ensure progress on the plan,” with Emon adding that that it “reaffirms the EOWC’s commitment to support the goal of building housing faster for all residents.”
The 7-in-7 Regional Housing Plan has the backing of both the Eastern Ontario Mayors’ Caucus and the Ontario Home Builders’ Association, and the Caucus says that that they look forward to renewing municipal relationships with all levels of government to advance and enhance infrastructure across Eastern Ontario.
