Renfrew residents have made a big statement in support of a historic town monument.
The Friends of the O’Brien Road Caboose held Caboose Day at Howard K. Haramis on Saturday, October 14th, and their Doug Sidock says the early tally from the event is looking good.
Between the weekend fundraiser and money already paid to the Town of Renfrew, the Caboose group has raised around $20,000 this year as they look to repay a $32,000 advance given to them by the town to remove lead paint from the exterior of the landmark CP Rail train car that sits near the entrance to town from Highway 17.
Sidock explains that he kicked off this week with a social media message thanking everyone who took part in the event.
He adds that the next fundraising effort from the Friends of the Caboose will be coming soon, as will the detailing work to complete the new look for the train car, which many Renfrew residents have been asking about.
Town council agreed to advance the money needed for the private group of Renfrew and area residents to get the project underway, with the expectation that the money would be repaid in the near future.
