September 15, 2023 marked a dark day for print media in the province. Metroland Media Group laid off about two-thirds of its staff, and the company seeks bankruptcy protection. myFM news ventured into the community to get an opinion closer to home:
Metroland announced their weekly community newspapers are moving entirely to online-only and will not be printed, consolidating, Carleton Place-Almonte Canadian Gazette, Arnprior Chronicle-Guide, Kemptville Advance, Renfrew Mercury, and others under one webpage. 68 journalists were included in the layoffs while the remaining employees except for 104 were non-unionized.
