There’s been a lot of hype over the September 28th “Saved by the Beep” campaign- a one-day, province-wide initiative encouraging the testing of your home smoke alarms.
Arnprior Deputy Chief and Fire Prevention Officer Cory Nicholas says the local department is parlaying the publicity surrounding Saved by the Beep into a change of strategy for the Town’s Annual door-to-door home visits initiative.
He spoke to the matter at Town Council on September 11th.
Nicholas says the door-to-door random visit model is not as effective as it once was, as resident availability is more inconsistent than in the past.
The Deputy Chief says as of now, residents will be able to book an appointment for their home safety visit.
When it all comes out in the wash, the number of people reached works out to be very similar to the present door-to-door method.
Nicholas says there are two ways a resident can pre-book a time for their home safety visit.
Elected representatives were unanimous in approving the new campaign method.
