The Township of Whitewater Region plans to only operate one arena this winter season. Mayor Neil Nicholson tells myFM news that the Cobden arena will be open as normal, but a second one could open if needed.
Nicholson also tells myFM news that decision was made, simply due to the costs taken on by the municipality since 2017.
When asked about the future of the arenas, Mayor Neil Nicholson tells myFM news that they have tough decisions to make after the winter.
Instead of giving each a $15,000 grant each year, the township was now having to pay $622,000. That cost doesn’t include is something were to break at any of those facilities. The Mayor goes on to say that if needed eventually, Whitewater Region could open Westmeath.
