Pressure continues to mount on the Doug Ford government over its actions to remove lands from Ontario’s restricted Greenbelt zones.
The OPP has deferred its option to investigate whether there was criminal behaviour in how the selected lands to be withdrawn were chosen, in favour of the RCMP- which has yet to determine a course of action.
More recently, conservation and environmental groups have been joined by First Nations, who oppose the process due to a lack of government consultation.
Ontario NDP Leader Marit Stiles remains steadfast in her opposition, which centres around three points.
Although the Minister of Housing’s chief of staff has resigned over behind-the-scenes conversations with land developers, that’s not where the buck stops according to Stiles.
The Opposition Leader says removing lands from the protected Greenbelt in southern Ontario won’t alleviate the housing shortage across the Province- and Premier Ford never intended it would.
Stiles notes that 319 acres of prime agricultural land disappears every day under Doug Ford’s watch.
Marit Stiles spoke with myFM/Oldies 107.7 during her visit to Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke this past Monday (August 28th).
