Renfrew County Warden Peter Emon
Renfrew County’s interests are being heard as the annual Association of Municipalities of Ontario Conference wraps up on Wednesday, August 23rd.
County Warden Peter Emon and other elected officials are using the forum to bend the ears of provincial leaders about issues that matter to life in the Ottawa Valley.
Emon says that the county had eight different meetings scheduled over the past few days, such as addressing a reduction in funding for the Ontario Works program, “which significantly impacts the services provided to clients in the County of Renfrew.”
He says that also includes the increasingly difficult issue of maintaining all 1,600 kilometres of county roads and infrastructure, early learning and child care, flood hazard mapping, paramedic shortages, long-term care spending, and more.
Emon notes that the AMO forum “is a great opportunity for the county and other municipalities to learn from the experiences of others,” giving municipalities the chance for targeted meetings with provincial ministers and their staff about local challenges and their need for sustainable funding or provincial policy.
Even though the conference is set to wrap up shortly, talks are expected to continue with the province even after it concludes.
