If you have the space and the ability, a young athlete coming to the area could use your help.
Marek Kopiowski, the founder of Renfrew Prep Basketball, says that they’re looking to find people who can house some of their players for the upcoming academic year.
As a billet family, you would be providing a home and room for the young players coming in from across Canada to prepare for collegiate-level basketball while attending high school. You would also be responsible for their food, which Kopiowski says they do provide an allowance for. Being able to transport the player to practices and games is a plus, but the program can make arrangements for their travel as well.
There are a couple of players coming to the Renfrew area soon, but he adds that Renfrew Prep Basketball is interested in hearing from potential billet homes who will be available down the line because the program is growing each year and will need more homes to house players as they do so.
It’s important support for the young athletes, which Kopiowski says builds strong, long-lasting bonds.
Kopiowski’s travels as a coach in his native Poland to Saskatoon and the junior levels of the Ontario and National teams have seen a number of young lives impacted by having a billet family, including one story that he shared with us.
