The Renfrew Minor Hockey Association is making sure older equipment isn’t going to waste.
Newer players and those who may need bigger equipment are welcome to check out what is available at the annual equipment swap at the Ma-te-Way Activity Centre.
Association President Kyle Schroeder says swapping out used or lost equipment has been an option for years thanks to the staff at the arena, but it really took off after it was brought out of the backrooms last year.
You’ll find tables of everything from skates to helmets and pretty much everything in between on display daily in the MAC’s main lobby during open hours.
With as much gear up for grabs as there is right now, Schroeder expects that there will be a lengthy window for you to find something that fits.
There is one general rule that people who are bringing in gear to exchange will need to keep in mind: if it isn’t in good enough shape to put on you or your kid, don’t drop it off.
On top of gear for ice hockey, Schroeder adds that there are some goalie pads and other equipment that would be perfect for road hockey players.
