Renfrew's Historic Caboose, which was the target of vandalism back in July of 2023
Both suspects involved in Tuesday evening’s graffiti incident in Renfrew have now been picked up.
According to a social media post from the OPP East Region Headquarters, officers in Renfrew have arrested and charged a 12-year-old with two counts of mischief and one for disguise with unlawful intent.
That follows a similar arrest for a 15-year-old on Wednesday, July 26th, in connection to both the historic caboose on O’Brien Road and a car wash on Barnet Boulevard being vandalized with spray paint.
The recent flurry of graffiti in Renfrew has sparked unrest in the community, as town staff work to clean up the mess left behind on municipal buildings. They’ve offered to help the volunteer group that was restoring the caboose remove the graffiti from its façade.
Council has heard on the matter of graffiti, and Town Hall has been directed to look into both a graffiti removal program and the possibility of adding security cameras strategically throughout the community.
In the meantime, the Renfrew OPP detachment says that their investigation is ongoing.
