Twenty-five percent of Canadians who live in urban areas are considering a move to the country.
Those statistics hearten Peter Emon, who says, although this is not his first term occupying the Warden’s Chair, he enjoys it more than any other.
The Warden says it is primarily two files that are driving the current agenda.
In olden days, workers were often housed in “company towns”, where the boss owned all the accommodations, and, until Stephen Harper became Prime Minister, the federal government had been a housing partner.
Warden Emon sees those two aspects of the dynamic returning to 2023 discussions.
Although the Warden is head of County Council, teams of wardens working in concert regionally, often have additional influence they can bring to bear.
The Eastern Ontario Warden’s Caucus, and the Association of Municipalities of Ontario are examples.
