It has all the environmental benefits of composting without the wait, effort, or smell.
Food Cycler composting units have made their way to the Town of Renfrew as part their in-home food waste diversion program with Food Cycle Science.
The countertop appliance uses electricity to quietly turn food waste into an odourless, nutrient-dense additive for flower beds and gardens in as little as 4 hours.
They come in two sizes, 2.5 litres and 5 litres, and are available at a discount off the retail price as part of a pilot project where Renfrew residents report on their usage for the first twelve weeks before filling out a survey on their experience.
Food Cyclers are available right now at the Recreation Centre on Argyle Street from 8:00am to 4:00pm, starting at $175 for the smaller unit.
You can also get more information by contacting Renfrew Waste Management at 613-432-8166 Ext 307 or by emailing aspringer@renfrew.ca.
