The Renfrew Minor Hockey Association is getting a head start on the year.
Their new president, Kyle Schroeder, tells myFM that it was a goal of his to make sure parents could register their kids for the upcoming season sooner than usual, adding that you can get started right now through their website.
It’s an early start that will give parents a chance to get payments in full to the league by December, with the same seamless online registration process as before, using the child’s Hockey Canada Registry profile. Payment through e-transfer, a method the association added last year, is here to stay, along with using a credit card or cheque.
Schroeder wants to inform parents that “there are a couple of new questions pertaining to evaluation jerseys; all new U9 players will need one, and anyone else that requires a new one can fill out the info. Waivers are also now all electronic to streamline the first day at the rink.”
A part of the RMHA for many years now, Schroeder says that his dedication is towards growing the association and improving player development. Another major goal for this year will be to ensure that they continue to get kids on the ice as much as possible, especially when it comes to their roster of goaltenders.
To that end, he says that players will get a chance to attend a free “Try Being a Goalie” session sometime in late August before the RMHA continues to provide goalies with further training sessions through the year courtesy of their league-wide goaltending coach and consultant, Richard Barr of Crossbarr Goaltending.
On top of that, much of the bigger dates on the RMHA schedule are already set. According to Schroeder, “we have already set our tournament dates so other associations can plan as we look to improve our home tournaments and continue to attract associations to come to the area from outside our district.”
Growing their communication with parents is also on the to-do list for Schroeder, as he notes that “it has always been about the players and parents. I welcome parent feedback and continue to look for ways to improve our programs, communications and involvement in the community.”
The RMHA is planning to add a parent meeting at the start of the season to act as an open forum on expectations, rink etiquette, and other topics that parents might want more information on.
If you miss out on asking questions there or have immediate concerns, Schroeder invites you to get in touch with any of the Renfrew Minor Hockey Association’s administrative staff by email or on social media.
