Don’t pass the crews painting traffic lines unless you want an artistic new look for your car.
Road crews will be out on roads maintained by the County of Renfrew this summer, and they won’t assume responsibility for any paint splatters your car picks up if you cross the centerline too soon.
The county is urging you to be patient if you find yourself behind one of the paint trucks currently at work.
Most painting will be done during the day, so the county recommends staying well back of the crews while they work and following their warning signs at all times.
Don’t attempt to immediately pass them or cross over the centerline. Instead, continue slowly behind them and wait for the truck to pull over so you can pass them, unless specifically instructed otherwise.
If you do get paint on your car, get it to a car wash as soon as possible because road paint can dry in as little as two minutes.
If a first pass doesn’t clean the unwanted paint job, county staff suggest spraying the affected area with WD-40 and waiting two hours before a second pass through the car wash.
Should that fail, consider filing a claim with your insurer.
