United Way East Ontario, Centraide Outaouais and the National Bank are well on their way to achieving this year’s Move for Youth campaign, an event in its third year running.
Trisha Islam, Director, All That Kids Can Be, says participants log their physical activities and the individual’s exercise counts toward a collective total.
The All That Kids Can Be Director says taking part first involves downloading an app.
Islam says the latest numbers show a significant percentage of young people in the region experiencing poor mental health.
The All That Kids Can Be Director says proactivity and a positive approach can make a big difference.
Trisha Islam says everybody taking part can remain up to date on the collective total as they report in on their own participation.
The MoveSpring app is tracking collective steps and is updated in real time. So everyone can see how many people are registered and how their combined efforts are doing in getting to the step total needed.
As of May 8th, there were 527 participants taking part and the goal is 66% achieved. Maybe this weekend’s great weather helped? There are thirteen more days to reach 30,000 steps, so keep sharing to pass this message on and attract more people to reach the objective!
Anyone can join Move for Youth for free by downloading the MoveSpring app and entering the code ‘UW-Centraide’ to register.
Reaching the 30 million step goal will unlock $30,000 from generous sponsors, which will go to support local initiatives like afterschool and summer programming for kids in low-income neighbourhoods, as well as supports for youth facing mental health and substance use challenges.
