Flooding on the Ottawa River continues this week, and municipalities in the Pontiac want their residents to be ready for it.
A joint statement by the Municipalities of L’Isle-aux-Allumettes, Chichester, and Sheenboro says that water levels in the area are expected to surpass last week’s peak by 50 to 55 centimeters.
They say that residents whose homes become unsafe due to flooding should safely evacuate. If you’re planning on doing so or need temporary accommodations, call the municipal office at 819-689-2266 to let them know.
You should also turn off your home’s hydro before leaving for safety reasons.
Municipal staff also want to hear from you if your private road becomes inaccessible, and remind you that emergency vehicles will not be able to travel on roads that are closed off due to flooding.
Anyone in need of immediate and urgent assistance should call 9-1-1.
