Couples in the Renfrew area who are planning to get married will soon have a new option to consider.
Town Clerk Victoria Charbonneau tells myFM a motion passed at the April 25th Council Meeting will allow her and a few other town staffers to officiate civil marriage ceremonies.
They still need some time to prepare, but our town clerk says it won’t be long before you can tie the knot right inside Town Hall.
The town’s full service will include a pre-ceremony meeting and the marriage itself, while also handling the registration paperwork afterwards for $250 plus between $125 and $150 for the marriage licence.
Charbonneau explains that the choice to add marriages to Town Hall’s long list of services is part of an ongoing commitment to help residents in and around Renfrew.
Right now, Charbonneau is the only one who has gone through the training workshops on civil marriages. However, she says that a few other key staffers will also be trained in the lead-up to the service’s debut sometime this July.
