New funding from Ontario Health will open up the Renfrew Victoria Hospital Assisted Living Program to 10 additional clients in the Renfrew area and another 10 between Calabogie, Cobden, and Eganville to double their existing availability.
A member of the community who has been receiving ALS support for several months says that the program is excellent and notes that the extra help saved them from having to make hard compromises to accommodate staying at home.
Since the programs inception in 2013, they’ve supported patients reduce their risk of unnecessary visits to the emergency room or hospitalization through twice-daily visits.
A registered nurse assessment is done to develop a tailored care plan with each client who is admitted and a personal support worker is available 24/7.
A referral is required through home and community care services. The waitlist includes clients who have been waiting for over a year, and with the additional funding the training of staff to increase their reach even further is close at hand.
