The strike involving the Public Service Alliance of Canada appears to be causing some problems for those living on Garrison Petawawa. Reports indicate that about 700 military members living on base are without heat or hot water after some federal workers were deemed non-essential. It’s also said that 21 buildings house members on site without the amenities. The heat went out Wednesday morning when 505 public service workers, including those who keep the heat on at the on-base central heating plant, walked off the job. Acting Commander Andrew Mills is quoted saying that they do have members that are in a legal strike position that are not available to come into work, that are required in order to ensure the safety of the operation of the central heating plant. About 155,000 public servants across Canada walked off the job Wednesday morning. PSAC, Canada’s largest public-sector union, is calling the strike one of the largest in Canadian history.
