With their mom facing the return of a serious illness, Shelley Martineau’s family wants to make sure she doesn’t go without.
Vanessa Lafleur tells myFM that her mother’s lung cancer, which they thought was surgically removed in 2018, has returned.
Now, Vanessa and her brother Jonathon are now asking for donations to help cover costs as their mom goes through a combination of chemotherapy and radiation to stop the growth.
Martineau’s cancer has forced her to take a step back from her long-time career at the Shawville Giant Tiger, where you might have seen her over the past 25 years. While she does have employment insurance to use in the short-term, Lafleur says it’s not going to be able to cover all of her mother’s new needs.
Lafleur says she gained love of helping the community from her mother and has carried that passion into her work with Bouffe Pontiac, the food bank in Campbell’s Bay.
She’s now reaching out to the community to lend a hand, the same way Shelley taught her to help others from an early age.
Donations can be made to help Shelley through their gofundme page. While their goal is $6,000 dollars to help cover the extra expenses that come with treatment and medicine, Lafleur says anything will help and even just spreading the link out to your friends and family would go a long way to helping her mother.
