Don’t be surprised to see police on the prowl this Easter Long Weekend.
Multiple OPP detachments in the Ottawa Valley are taking part in a province-wide traffic safety campaign centered around seatbelt compliance from Friday, April 7th to Monday, April 10th.
Not wearing a seatbelt is one of “The Big 4” when it comes to the causes of personal injury during a collision, and our local police say they will be “highly visible” on the roads to ensure everyone’s safety.
They remind you that that all drivers and passengers must be properly restrained in a vehicle regardless of how short the trip is, and it’s the driver’s responsibility to make sure passengers under the age of 16 are properly buckled up.
That especially counts for toddlers and young children, who must be properly restrained in a proper child car seat for their age and size.
Lastly, our local police add that the fines are pretty steep if you get caught not wearing a seatbelt: $240 and two demerit points.
