The Renfrew Wolves held on for over 50 minutes on Thursday night to put themselves one game away from advancing to the second round of the CCHL Playoffs, beating the Hawkesbury Hawks 2-1.
The Wolves held the momentum heading into the Robert Hartley Sports Complex for Game 4 after a late flurry of goals sealed a comeback win in Game 3 on Tuesday.
Brendan Waivada opened scoring for Renfrew just over a minute into the contest before Brandon Clarke responded in kind for Hawkesbury to bring the game back level at the three minute mark.
Trent Scullion would provide the last bit of offence in the game at the seven minute mark, as his slap shot from near the blue line would deflect off a body and into the net to give the Wolves a 2-1 lead.
That’s where the score would stay for the rest of the game, despite the Wolves throwing 49 shots total at Hawks goaltender Dimitri Pelekos.
The Wolves will stay in Hawkesbury for Game 5 on Friday, March 31st with the puck dropping at 7:30pm. Be sure to tune into 96.1 myFM to hear the action live starting at 7:30pm.
