You’ll soon be able to book a full day of baseball at Ma-te-Way Park for one flat rate.
Part of changes made at the committee level to Renfrew’s 2023 Budget includes lower rental rates for the town’s baseball diamonds, as well as a full day fee for both minor and adult tournaments.
Discussing the changes at the Tuesday, March 28 Town Council meeting, Chief Administrative Officer Rob Tremblay says it’s an attempt to boost their use.
The discounts will also extend to hourly rates for the nearby soccer pitch, as Mayor Tom Sidney explains they hope the extra usage will cover the up-front loss of revenue that comes with bringing prices down.
A flat rate to have access to all three ball diamonds is a new option for people hosting baseball tournaments in town, with the cost starting at $300 per day for minors.
Councilor Andrew Dick, who notes that he has past experience renting the facilities, did add that there will be one caveat that comes with the lower rates.
The new rental fees are subject to Renfrew’s 2023 Town Budget being passed on April 11th, and CAO Tremblay says that they expect to better understand how the changes impact the use of the facilities next year because most tournaments happening in 2023 are already booked.
