It was a long way to travel just to get caught.
Renfrew OPP were called to a gas station in town at around 6:40am on Wednesday, March 22nd to investigate an abandoned car.
After confirming it had been stolen from York Region, local officers worked with the East Region’s Community Street Crime Unit to track down and arrest the suspect at a hotel in Renfrew
24-year-old Amin Benarqia of Anjou, Quebec has since been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 possession of a forged document, and three counts of identity fraud.
Benarqia was held for a bail hearing before being released on a Judge’s Release Order, but will return to Renfrew for a May 3rd court appearance.
