Do you know number one thing that can help a 9-1-1 dispatcher when there’s an emergency?
Liam Vanderbraak is the President for OPSEU/SEFPO Local 449, the union that represents the team of fire and ambulance 9-1-1 dispatchers who oversee Renfrew County, as well as South Algonquin and most of Algonquin Park.
He tells myFM that the National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week is coming up on the second week of April, and is reaching out the community ahead of time to remind you that our local dispatchers have a lot of ground to cover from their central office located in Renfrew.
While calling 9-1-1 is never the best day of your life, Vanderbraak says he and his team are there to help and the process they follow ensures that they can send you the right kind of help as quickly as possible.
He adds that their services are there 24/7/365 for all residents and visitors to the area and calls the opportunity to aid the community when they need paramedic or fire services “an incredible privilege.”
